 The History

 

25th October 2002 marked a historic day in the diary of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM). The first inter-varsity engineering games named “Engineering Games (EG) 2002 ″ was held. ‘The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM), as the main organizer has jointly organized this event with the engineering student societies from Multimedia University (MMU-Cyberjaya), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) with the assistance of IEM Graduate and Student Section (G&S). Graduate and Student Section has been promoting the event aggressively since August 2002.

 

This event mooted a year ago at an engineering students gathering held by the G&S Section. The gathering was organized for the purpose of:

-          To create social interaction amongst the engineering students.

-          To promote a healthy lifestyle and intellectual living society amongst the young engineers of today.

-          Unearthing new talents and capabilities amongst in participants in sports.

 

This event managed to garner the participation of 6 public and private universities namely; Multimedia University (MMU-Cyberjaya), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Multimedia University (MMU-Melaka) and Universiti Malaya (UM). G&S Section participated in the games as the invitation team. The 7 contingents gathered for these three days vying for the coveted G&S Challenge Trophy, given to the overall champion. 

The event consists of 6 types of games: badminton, chess, basketball, soccer, street soccer and table tennis. All the games were held at MMU-Cyberjaya, UPM and UNITEN from 25th  to 27th  October 2002.
