The 32nd Annual General Meeting (AGM)
of the Graduate & Student Section was held on 29 June
2002 at Hotel Nikko, Kuala Lumpur. Prior to the AGM, a Special
General Meeting (SGM) was held to amend the G&S Bylaws and
Regulations. A Welcome Function was held in conjunction with the
AGM.
The SGM started at
2:15p.m. The chairman, Sdr. Kok Hee Poh, acknowledging the good
attendance, proceeded to brief members on the amendments to the
G&S Bylaws and Regulations. The items highlighted were the
creation of the Honorary Treasurer position to relief the Honorary
Secretary / Treasure of a Treasurer’s duties, and the composition
and more well defined prerequisites of ascent of Committee Members
on the organization structure. He also explained about the
procedures for the conduct of the SGM as required in the Bylaws
and the proposed revised voting procedures for the AGM and SGM.
The resolutions for the proposed amendments were unanimously
agreed.
At 2:45 p.m., Sdr. Suresh Yegambaram took over
to present a short talk on Introduction of the G&S and the
Institution. As the first part of the welcome function, he briefly
mentioned the vision and mission statements, organization chart
and the various activities organized by the G&S.
At 3.05 p.m., the Chairman introduced the main
sponsors (MK Electric and Southern Bank) and thanked them for
being supportive of the Anniversary Dinner to be held in the
evening. He also encouraged participation from members present.
MK Elektrik then presented a showcase of its
products focusing on smart homes, followed by a 15-minute tea
break. Members present also had the opportunity to the products on
exhibit.
The 32nd AGM was officially kicked
off at 3.45 p.m. Sdr. Kok, as view the outgoing Chairman,
presented his opening address. He urged the members to support the
G&S and partake in its activities. He also hoped the incoming
Chairman would put in more effort to do more for members and in
return receive continuous support from the members. He then
proceeded to present the minutes of the 31st AGM, which
was later confirmed and adopted.
Sdr. Clement Tan Pey Bin, the Honorary
Secretary/Treasurer for session 2001/2002, took over to report on
the G&S Annual Report for Session 2001/2002. The membership was
6,653 as at 30 April, comprising of 50 engineering disciplines. He
also presented the Financial Report to members, which was later
confirmed and adopted.
The outgoing Chairman then announced the
results of election. The office bearers of the G&S Committee for
session 2002/2003 is as follows:

The AGM was informed that Ir. Associated Prof.
Siti Hawa Hamzah has been appointed the G&S advisor.
All Committee Members of the new session were
then invited for a photographs session. The new Chairman delivered
his address
before the AGM was officially closed at 4:30p.m. A
short video presentation from Southern Bank
followed.
Sdri. Jennifer Tan then took over the floor to
deliver the presentation on “Route to Professional Engineer” and
the entire afternoon session ended at 5:15 p.m. with questions and
answers as scheduled.
